La Paz Community School

The kids are attending La Paz Community School in Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.  It is a Pre-school thru 12th grade school with approx. 210 students and is in it's 6th year.  In fact, they will have their first graduating seniors this year that started with the school when it opened 6 years ago!  The student make-up is approx. 40% local kids and the other 60% of the kids come from over 25 different countries.  It is amazing to see all these families from so many places all here together for the same reason....an amazing bilingual educational experience for our children in a beautiful setting.  Here are some photos of the school......First is the South Campus which is just in it's second year of operation and where Dominic and Zack have their classes.  Dominic has 16 in his grade and Zack has 10.  Next year, all the kids in grades 1-12 will be at this new location and the youngest kids will remain at the North (original) campus.  The two campuses are just a couple minutes apart.  The new campus is just inside at the base of the Mar Vista development and that is who donated the land to the school.  Infrastructure is being built now in this development with a few house already starting to show up on the surrounding hills.

  4. Hello, thank you for a great blog! I am trying to find out if La Paz is a good fit for our kids. I have one major question: I was told by LA Paz that they are progressive, child focused and that they practice a child eld curriculum with a focus on understanding and explanation etc and we were so excited. Then I was told by a LA Paz parent that La Paz also uses time out (a 5 year old child placed in a corner facing away from everyone fro up to 15 minutes for being "naughty", ie laughing and chatting which , well, 5 year olds do). I would really like to know if you know anything about this? Time Outs are against everything that progressive, child focused education should be about, and albeit just one example, it would seriously deter me from placing my kids with La Paz. Thank you!
